Menopause can affect people in very different ways. For some, symptoms can significantly affect their wellbeing,confidence and experience at work. A lack of understanding - or workplace practices and environments that do not take menopause into account - can create additional barriers and prevent people from accessing the support they need.

Developed and delivered by trainers with lived experience of menopause, this course combines factual information with practical workplace approaches. It helps participants understand the range of experiences involved, hold sensitive and supportive conversations, recognise potential discrimination and health and safety risks, and identify practical changes that can make a meaningful difference for affected individuals.

The aim is not to turn managers or colleagues into medical experts, but to build the confidence and understanding needed to respond appropriately and contribute to a workplace where menopause can be discussed without embarrassment, assumptions or stigma.

Depending on the session length and your organisation’s needs, the course can include:Participants will consider practical ways to strengthen menopause inclusion within their own teams and across the organisation. They will leave better equipped to respond appropriately,challenge assumptions and contribute to an environment where women and others experiencing menopause feel supported, included and treated fairly.

  • Key facts and terminology, including the phases, early, premature, medically induced and surgically induced menopause
  • The wide range of physical, cognitive and psychological symptoms and how individual experiences can differ
  • How symptoms may affect someone at work and how working conditions or practices can make them more difficult to manage
  • Myths, assumptions and stigma surrounding menopause
  • How people’s experiences may also be shaped by identity, culture, disability, health, occupation and other circumstances
  • Relevant legal responsibilities, including health and safety and the Equality Act 2010
  • Recognising and preventing discrimination, harassment and unfair treatment
  • Holding sensitive and supportive conversations while maintaining privacy and confidentiality
  • Practical workplace support, flexibility and  adjustments
  • The respective roles of managers, colleagues,  HR and People teams, and the individual experiencing menopause
  • Organisational policies, sources of support and signposting to further information

Participants will consider practical ways to strengthen menopause inclusion within their own teams and across the organisation. They will leave better equipped to respond appropriately,challenge assumptions and contribute to an environment where women and others experiencing menopause feel supported, included and treated fairly.
